General Electrics

Electrics is the primary type of work we carry out. Our engineers are either qualified electricians or apprentices in the case of learners. The other services we offer are part of follow on qualifications after becoming an electrician.

Electrics isn’t just about making something work. It’s about ensuring the work we do is safe. This is achieved by testing and certifying our work. Typically any wiring alteration or addition requires a certificate; and domestically any wiring altering in a special location such as a kitchen or bathroom will also require building regulations notification to the local council inline with Part P of the building regulations.

Electrical Installation

Electrical installation requires careful forward planning to ensure the installation meets the design requirements. Installation is always undertaken with care to ensure the least amount of damage to the fabric of the build as possible.

With all installed electrics throughly tested before being put into service you can be sure that the installation provided is safe. For outdoor lighting see https://cjsparks.com/garden-lighting/

Maintenance

Reactive maintenence is charged at £80 excluding VAT (£96 including VAT) for the first hour, £60 excluding VAT (£72including VAT) for each subsequent hour. This does not include parts which are costed in addition.

In the case of fire alarm & intruder alarm contracts, we provide a 24 hour call out service with a maximum of an 8 hour reaction time.

Fuse Boxes

Fuse boxes, or consumer units to use the correct term, form the primary safety functions of the electrical installation. If your consumer unit doesn’t have the appropriate safety devices then the electrical installation as a whole may not be safe. That’s not to say that older consumer units are unsafe.

To determine that, you really need to consider completing an electrical installation condition report. Our comprehensive guide will help you understand the process of a replacement consumer unit along with the costs involved.

Design

Electrical design is fundamental for ensuring that everything specified and installed will work correctly and safely.

Getting cable sizes right and getting the appropriate circuit layouts and protective devices is essential for any installation.

Most small installations skip a formal design process, whereby best practice is utilised.

For medium to large installations, design is a must before the installation can be even costed.

We provide full design drawings with calculations if necessary in Autocad. These can include 3D rendering, and we are BIM ready.

Pricing

Drawings start from £350 excluding VAT (£420 including VAT) for small installations.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

Appliance testing is most often requested from offices and landlords. There is no legal requirement to carry out these checks, a simple record detailing your own visual checks is enough. However, those who prefer to have it completed normally does so for piece of mind.

New appliances certainly don’t need these checks, it’s understandable to assume that something recently purchased should comply and be safe to use.

Time between inspection varies on the basis of what the item is used for, how often it is used and what it is. We tend to stick to 2 years between inspections.

Pricing

We charge £40 excluding VAT for setup (£48 including VAT).

For each appliance test we charge £1.20 excluding VAT (£1.44 including VAT).

Electrical Reports & Certification

It is essentially what the name suggests, a report on the condition of the electrical installation. It involves us testing the circuitry including removal of a percentage of accessories (sockets, lights etc.) for inspection.

By doing this we can ascertain whether the wiring is safe for continued service or if certain remedial actions need to be taken to rectify the original work.

Pricing

£150 excluding VAT for the first 4 circuits followed by £25 excluding VAT for each circuit thereafter.

Lightning Protection

We provide a full installation and maintenance service for lightning protection including surge protective devices.

Lightning and surge protective devices are critical in buildings which present a high enough risk for lighting strikes or where lightning may strike within 1 mile of the building’s location.

This is because the voltages from the strike can travel in excess of a mile and potentially damage critical or expensive equipment.

Surge protective devices can be connected to an alarm so that when a strike happens and they act to save equipment, they then need to be replaced. Without an alarm they may fail and no one will know that this has happened.

We install both British Standard and European Standard lightning protection systems. The British Standard normally includes straps which are installed on the perimeter of the building and taken to ground. The Europeans install lightning rods, which in our opinion offers a better protection to the building.

Pricing

Installation starts from £1500 excluding VAT (£1800 including VAT) supply and fitting for small buildings.

Maintenance

Maintenance starts from £300 excluding VAT per year (£360 including VAT).
